Family of Walter Scott hosts community gathering 11 years after his death

The family of Walter Scott hosted a “Day of Grief & Community Unity” on Saturday, April 4, the 11th year after Scott’s fatal shooting by a North Charleston police officer.

The event took place at Park Circle Park from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to honor Scott’s life and serve as a space for healing, connection and support for community members who have been affected by police violence.

On April 4, 2015, Scott, a 50-year-old father and Coast Guard veteran, was shot multiple times in the back during a traffic stop by a former North Charleston police officer.
